RD 8 Match Report

Round 8 – June 25th – VS Eagles

Pre Game
Once again Vancouver weather had been extremely kind to the boys in red and blue. It was a beautiful day at Langley, with Matty even commenting, “no one is even lighting tyres on fire today”. The cougars played the last game against the eagles and were keen to make up for 2 losses already that year. The first game was won by the saints by just over a goal. Coach Boz had the boys warming up early. Unfortunately Brod “got lost”, we all assume that he tried to get the five other boys he was driving to shave one side of their heads too, and the cougars went into the first quarter missing.

1st Quarter
Once again the cougars looked half asleep when the game started. This may have been due to the fact that half the team was getting changed. The eagles stormed out of the blocks with LuLu dominating and kicking a few, to put the Eagles well ahead. The eagles kicked 4 goals 3 to one goal 2.

2nd Quarter
The Cougs after getting a licking from the coach, ran into the 2nd quarter full of effort and speed. Their tackling and pressure on the ball was up, as well as their disposals. They were definitely buoyed but the return of past coach, hero, Brad Jorgenson. He was the small forward the boys were looking for all year, took a ball out of the pack and snapped it home. This was followed by goals to Brod and Colgate. The Cougs had reduced the margin by a goal.

3rd Quarter
The third was much like the second. In a stroke of genius Gav was moved onto Lulu. He held him comfortably in the second quarter. The Cougs smashed on 3 more goals to 1, care of Jorgo, Matty and Colgate.

4th Quarter
The Cougs went into the last quarter down by a point. Ian/Colgate/crybaby, had come alive and was taking some great pack marks and kicked two for the quarter. Animal – Jackson, first gamer, was dominating through the center, and managed to kick 2 was well. The Cougs with 2 minutes to go were up by a goal. Ryan did magnificently in the ruck, now unopposed as the NUMBER ONE RUCKMAN. Unfortunately for the boys they lost the legs in the end and the Eagles kicked the final two to run out winners by a goal.

Post Game
Boz was very impressed with the boys after the game, calling it the best effort of the year. It will definitely be a great first game in the finals.

Goal Scores:
Colgate 4, Jorgo, Jackson 2, Matty, Bron and 28(new ryan?) 1
Best: Ryan, Jimmy, Gav, Brod, Colgate, Jackson, Jorgo

Thanks to all the umpires and the girls who assisted. NOW – Joyce, I believe you owe me a dinner and night on the town, as I did not use a single bracket in the writing of this article.
