Rd 5 Match Report

Round 5 – May 28th – VS Bayhawks at Langley

Game Report
The Canucks (sorry – have them on my mind), the cougars were playing the Bayhawks in the early game on a beautiful BC day. It would be a close match, with the Bayhawks hungry for their first win. The second match was Saints vs Eagles. It was an exceptional match, with the Eagles kicking the first 8, then they Saints pulling back to nearly steal the game. Our heart breaks for one of the Unsung heros of the day, putting his body on the line (by running on a flat surface), Joyboy’s hamstrings couldn’t take the pressure. He pulled his Hammy, and the Gods wept! Oh woe to a world who strikes down one so young.

Pre Game
The Cougars were missing some of their vital players. They had apparently gone to some hippy convention, where they put flowers in their hair and dance in circles. Apart from that the boys turned up early and ready to play. Turfs (who had an actual injury – see above) was to put his AFL experienced mind to good use as Game day Coach.

1st Quarter
The cougars started the quarter b dominating the ruck. Ryan, must have grown 2-3 feet since last game, as he won every tap easily. Gav got on the end of a long kick to register the first goal. With Ryan still dominating the ruck, the Bayhawks pushed back kicking the next 2. Their youngsters showed real character again, and damm speed (seriously there should be some rule against pace in this league, like rugby has aboutweight) Once again Gav picked up and kicked another. The quarter finished out with the cougars behind by 5 points. Turfs focused the boys on winning the center bounces.

2nd Quarter
The second quarter was dominated by the Cougars. Kicking 5 goals to 1, Gav smashed on 3 more to have 5 for the half, Ash and Colgate chipped in for one. Hamish (my hero) Archibald playing out of position at CHB was something else. He was smashing packs open, taking marks, and borking like a rover. The Bayhawks could not get past him, he was supported as always by our unsung heros in the backline, Coops, Teddy, Josh, Macdog, Darrn. Arch was like a Queen (on the chess board) and he was directing his pawns perfectly. The cougars went in 7 goals to 3

3rd Quarter
Premier ship quarter was a real wrestle (not a sexy on with girls in bikinis, but one with sweaty hairy men – not sexy at all). The team was led by our Captian Krazy, who all day had won the hard ball gets, and continued to drive us forward with his long kicking. So prolific was his center clearances, that they were triple teaming him whenever he got the ball. CI Mike was battling (like our hero Kesler) all over the ground, winning many one on one contests. Rocket was his usual self presenting and winning the one on ones. CI Matty was also playing like a true CHF, leading and creating space for all around. Ian found some of that space, but could not convert, because he doesn’t rest his body like others do!. Ash once again lead strong, and battled on the goal line to kick the only goal for the quarter. The Bayhawks kicked 3 points, which was a great result for a hard battling backline.

4th Quarter
The Bayhawks dominated the last quarter, controlling most of the play. As usual, the cougars were tackling like animals (not cougars, more like bears) 2nd gamer Josh was wearing a Canadian international rep like a glove, and did a fantastic job of keeping him of the score board. Adam Kelly from the Bayhawks was being his usual pesky self, parked on the goal line and rebounding every attempt at a goal. They Bayhawks pulled within 5 points, as the cougars visibly ran out of gas (come to training and Monday runs, I am sick of running by myself, I feel lonely)
Goal Scores: 5 Gav, 2 Ash, 1 Colgate

Best: Arch, Krazy, Gav, Macca, Ryan, Mike

Thank again to Ange for dealing with all the Soft boys and for taking the scores (and handling a hyperactive dog) . Also thanks as always to the umpires, especially the one who look a bit like a pedo.
